The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has declared that anyone found in National Unity Platform (NUP) clothing will be killed.
This week has seen numerous reports of military raids targeting NUP members, often referred to as "Foot Soldiers," who wear red attire that the military claims resembles their uniforms.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gen. Muhoozi issued a stark warning that moving forward, anyone caught wearing NUP uniforms will face lethal consequences without hesitation.
"From now on if we find anyone wearing a NUP uniform we will kill them! No questions!" Gen Muhoozi stated.
His declaration follows the recent circulation of a viral video showing NUP members marching at their party headquarters in a manner the military alleges mimics military drills.
Since the parade, several NUP members have reportedly gone missing, including chief mobilizer Fred Nyanzi, who vanished last week but reappeared days later.
The parade has also prompted security forces to raid the party's offices, with police citing reports of "unauthorized military drills" taking place at NUP locations.
"Following reports of unauthorized military drills at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kavule and their premise in Kamwokya in Kampala City, the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has mounted a coordinated security operation," Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said.
“Our security personnel are currently conducting searches at the mentioned locations. Further updates on the outcomes of this operation will be provided in due course.” he added.
In response, NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi has condemned the siege of their party offices, calling it a continued infringement on their rights.
