Earlier, security operatives, including the police, military, and personnel from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT), have surrounded the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in cutting off all access points, including feeder roads leading to the offices.

Journalists who had gathered near the premises were chased away upon the arrival of security forces.

Witnesses reported hearing the sound of heavy machinery, believed to have been used to cut through the gate, before a team of operatives entered the party offices.

The reason behind the operation remains unclear. However, what unfolded resembled a full-scale siege, with military vehicles and heavily armed personnel ensuring that no one could access the party premises or monitor the activities inside.

Security operatives maintained patrols around the premises throughout the morning before finally positioning themselves at the offices around 2 PM.

It remains unclear whether any materials were seized or arrests made in connection with the operation.

Party members, sensing an imminent crackdown, had vacated the premises earlier upon noticing the deployment of JATT forces in the vicinity.

NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya had also left the offices earlier in the day before the full deployment occurred.

At the time of filing this report, security forces were still in control of both locations, leaving many questions unanswered regarding the motive and implications of the operation. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement explaining the reasons behind the siege.
