National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and supporters in Lubaga South have launched a campaign to reclaim political leadership in the area from opposition parties, aiming to secure leadership positions at all levels in the 2026 elections.

Residents and local leaders expressed frustration, stating that despite voting for opposition leaders over the years, they have seen little development.

Many now believe that aligning with the ruling NRM government will allow them to benefit from national projects and resources.

Majambere Kamuntu, who is contesting for NRM Chairperson in Lubaga, alongside Mohad Fit, an aspirant for Lord Mayor, vowed to strengthen the party’s presence in the area.

“For years, people have claimed that NRM is weak in Lubaga, but today, we are here with determination to change that narrative,” Kamuntu said.

Leaders pointed to several government projects in Lubaga, including road construction and infrastructure improvements, as evidence of NRM’s impact in the area.

They urged residents to vote for NRM candidates who will work directly with the government to bring more development.

The campaign meeting, held in Kabowa, saw NRM supporters presented with the party’s manifesto and priorities for the 2026 elections.

Minister of State for the Luwero-Rwenzori Triangle Alice Kaboyo, who attended the event, urged residents to trust NRM candidates to ensure direct collaboration with the government and the president.

“NRM is still strong, and by electing NRM leaders, you will have better access to national resources and development projects,” Kaboyo stated.

Musa Mbazira, the Speaker of Lubaga Division, also called on residents to reconsider their political choices, emphasizing that voting for NRM would improve their livelihoods.

Currently, both Lubaga North and Lubaga South are dominated by opposition Members of Parliament and many opposition councilors. However, the ruling party is determined to shift the political landscape in the upcoming elections.

As 2026 approaches, NRM is intensifying efforts to win over voters in Lubaga South, arguing that aligning with the ruling party will bring greater opportunities and development to the area.
