A political dispute has emerged in Kiboga District after Woman MP Christine Kaaya accused Desire Muhoozi, an aspirant for the Kiboga MP seat, of disrespectful behavior.

Ms Muhoozi, a daughter of General Salim Saleh, has not publicly responded to the allegations, but sources close to her have dismissed them as politically motivated.

Kaaya, who represents the National Unity Platform (NUP), claims Muhoozi's conduct during her campaign events has caused divisions among local leaders.

In particular, she cited Muhoozi’s recent meeting with Uganda Communications Commission Director Nyombi Thembo and State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara in Kiboga, which Kaaya alleges was intended to create confusion.

She has urged the Electoral Commission to intervene.

The allegations have fueled debate in Kiboga, a district that has experienced political tensions in the past.

The disputed 2021 election results and the subsequent appointment of Ruth Nankabirwa as Minister of Energy and Mineral Development remain contentious issues among residents. Nankabirwa lost her seat to Kaaya but was later appointed to the cabinet by President Museveni, a move some critics saw as political compensation.

As the controversy unfolds, the Electoral Commission has called on all parties to submit formal complaints and maintain peace.

The Wamala Region police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, also warned that authorities would take action against anyone inciting violence.

While some Kiboga residents have expressed support for Kaaya, others defend Muhoozi’s right to campaign freely.

District leaders have urged dialogue to prevent further divisions, amid concerns that the dispute could escalate.
