The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola on Tuesday made a number of transfers that saw the commandant of the Police Training School in Kabalye, Masindi, Commissioner of Police Michael Mugabi, replaced.
The transfers signed by Ochola himself saw Mugabi taken to the police headquarters as police commandant in charge of training.
He was replaced by Assistant Commissioner of Police Abubaker Ziwedde who has been on a course at the police senior command and staff academy in Rwanda.
The CID Deputy Director Senior Commissioner of Police Geoffrey Musana was also reverted to general duties and appointed Deputy Director Human Resource and Administration.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Simon Peter Wafana was transferred from operations to human resource management as the assistant commandant in charge of police manpower audit.
“The transfers and appointment take immediate effect,” read Ochola’s message.
The Nile Post has however learnt that Mugabi’s replacement as the police training school commandant stemmed from Ochola’s visit to the school last month that left him not contented with what he saw.
“His sacking came after the IGP visited the school last month for the pass out of CID officers and he found a lot of irregularities at the school,” said a source at police headquarters.
“He found no accommodation for instructors yet the ongoing construction of instructors’ houses was taking long and shoddy work had been done. They were in a very bad shape and the ceilings in some of the houses had caved in."
According to the source, Ochola was not impressed by the way the police training school was being managed by Mugabi.
