IGG Arrests Three Over Shs 50 Million Ghost Fish Pond Scandal in Obongi

Officials from the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) have arrested three suspects in Obongi District over their alleged involvement in a Shs 50 million ghost fish pond project in Odonga East Village, Odonga Parish, Aliba Sub-county.
The suspects include Yasin Moga, Chairperson of the Procurement Committee for the Odonga Fish Pond Project and NRM Mobilizer in Obongi District; Ratin Atiku, the project’s Treasurer and NRM Chairperson of Odonga East Village; and Abdul Malik Islam, Chairperson of the Project Management Committee and LC I Chairperson of Mbaale Village, Odonga Parish.
Obongi Resident District Commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka stated that the three suspects were solely behind the fraudulent project, allegedly embezzling funds in connivance with Obongi District Local Government officials, who are yet to be apprehended.
Superintendent of Police Ignatius Dragudu, the Police Public Relations Officer for the North West Nile region, confirmed the arrests.
“The three suspects are in our custody at Obongi Central Police Station, pending transfer for trial at the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala,” Dragudu stated.
He further warned community leaders and civil servants against misappropriating public funds, emphasizing that corruption would not be tolerated and that those involved must be held accountable in court.
