Young people in Kazo District who have undergone vocational training at the Greater Ankole Zonal Industrial Hub in Mbarara are set to receive startup capital to launch their own businesses, thanks to a newly established Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO).

The SACCO, formed with support from the Office of the President, aims to provide financial assistance to graduates skilled in trades such as welding, hairdressing, carpentry, and tailoring.

This initiative will ensure that their acquired skills translate into economic opportunities.

During a meeting at Kazo Council Hall on Saturday, graduates, district leaders, and State House representatives gathered to formalize the SACCO and discuss its operations.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Julias Muheirwe, the coordinator of industrial hubs for Central and Western Uganda, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth training.

"President Museveni's vision is to equip every family with at least one skilled individual. This approach will help reduce unemployment and improve household incomes," Muheirwe stated, encouraging Ugandans to embrace skilling programs.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mugisha Bazirio Paddy, who chaired the meeting, applauded the initiative, noting its significance in transforming the lives of young people.

"Many of these young people had limited educational opportunities, but now they have skills that can earn them a living. The SACCO will enable them to access startup capital at low-interest rates, ensuring that their training does not go to waste," he said.

Kazo District Chairperson Samuel Mugisha Katugunda also commended the formation of the SACCO, urging the youth to manage their funds responsibly.

"This investment in youth skilling is a great opportunity. I encourage all beneficiaries to use the SACCO responsibly to grow their businesses and transform their lives," Katugunda emphasized.

Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Keith Bahemuka took time to recognize the dedication of the trainees, reading out the names of participants from various intakes and commending their efforts.

Meanwhile, District Commercial Officer Aaron Muzahura provided crucial guidance on SACCO registration and sustainability.

He stressed the importance of proper financial management and accountability to ensure long-term success.

The Presidential Industrial Hubs initiative has become a cornerstone in Uganda’s fight against youth unemployment. By prioritizing skills development and entrepreneurship, the program empowers young people with the tools needed to create their own enterprises.

With the approval of startup capital, these graduates are now positioned to transform their skills into thriving businesses. With government backing and community support, they have a unique opportunity to drive economic growth in Kazo and beyond.
