Traffic disrupted as fuel tanker catches fire along Mityana road

A fuel tanker caught fire this morning on the Mityana-Kampala road near Kiwawu tea estate, causing significant traffic disruption. The blaze has blocked half of the road, making it impassable.

Authorities have deployed traffic officers to secure the scene and manage the flow of vehicles, while the fire brigade is working to extinguish the flames.

“We urge motorists to exercise patience and follow the instructions of traffic officers as efforts continue to clear the road,” said SP Kananura Michael, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety.

Fuel tanker accidents have been a recurring safety concern in Uganda, often leading to casualties and road closures. Experts have repeatedly called for stricter regulations on fuel transportation and improved emergency response measures to prevent such tragedies.

Travelers have been advised to avoid the area until the fire is completely put out and the road is reopened. Authorities will provide further updates on the situation.
