The facility is designed to enhance Uganda’s coffee value chain by producing a range of high-value products, including instant coffee, drip coffee, malt coffee, coffee energy drinks, and coffee-based beauty cosmetics.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to maximize export revenues, create employment opportunities, and increase farm gate prices for local farmers.
In May 2024, President Yoweri Museveni inspected the factory’s progress and reaffirmed his commitment to Uganda’s coffee value addition strategy.
He highlighted the economic potential of processed coffee, noting that while exporting raw beans earns Uganda about $2.50 per kilogram, processed coffee can fetch up to $40 per kilogram in international markets.
The President assured continued government support to ensure the factory’s success.
The Inspire Africa Coffee Park is a key part of Uganda’s Coffee Investment Consortium Uganda (CICU), a government-backed initiative launched in 2023 to promote value-added coffee exports.
The project is also receiving support from the Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat under the Office of the President.
With 85% of the necessary machinery already installed and operational, Inspire Africa Coffee Park is now transitioning into the production phase.
The first batch of Inspire Coffee products is expected to be launched in the first half of 2025.
With a progressed report presentation to the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury (PSST), Ramathan Ggoobi, the government urged Inspire Africa Coffee to ensure commercial viability and accountability for public resources.
“We want to see Ugandan coffee in the market. We shall support you to get market access,” Ggoobi said.
The Inspire Africa Coffee Park is expected to play a transformative role in Uganda’s coffee industry by shifting from exporting raw beans to producing high-value products.
This transition is projected to increase Uganda’s coffee revenue from the current $1 billion to an estimated $4 billion in the coming years.
As the project nears completion, all eyes are on Inspire Africa Coffee to deliver on its promise of making Ugandan coffee a global brand while creating jobs and improving livelihoods for coffee farmers.
