NRM extends membership update for Tororo County

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has extended the ongoing update of its party membership register in Tororo County by one more day. This decision follows the burial of the district’s NRM Publicity Secretary, David Ofwono Apiauni, who was laid to rest on Saturday.
According to Rogers Mulindwa, who is overseeing the exercise in the Bukedi subregion, the extension is meant to allow residents to mourn their fallen leader.

"We have extended the update for the people of Tororo County because they are mourning their son, who was buried today," Mulindwa stated.
The registration exercise, which covers seven districts of Tororo, Busia, Butaleja, Budaka, Pallisa, Butebo, and Kibuku, has attracted new party entrants.
However, Mulindwa noted that the overall turnout was lower than expected.
"As usual, some people you invite for the exercise do not show up, and tomorrow they will want to cause commotion, claiming their names are missing from the register," he remarked.
Mulindwa warned that failure to participate in the registration process would have consequences, especially for those hoping to engage in future NRM activities, including party primaries and structure elections.
"If your name is not on the register during this exercise, then automatically, you will not qualify to participate in any party activities because you won’t be a registered member," he cautioned.
The NRM initiated the exercise after discovering that its existing register had been revised, leaving only 11.4 million members from the previous 17 million. The party aims to scrutinize new entrants by holding verification meetings at the village level.
"We even hold barazas in villages to confirm that someone has been pro-NRM in the community," Mulindwa explained.
With the exercise now concluded in the other six districts of Bukedi, only Tororo County remains pending, with closure scheduled for tomorrow.
