The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Publicity Secretary for Tororo District, David Ofwono Apiauni, has been laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Kasipodo Village, Kayoro Sub-county, amid a massive gathering of mourners from across the country.

Ofwono, who passed away last week due to multiple organ failure, was honored by top politicians and NRM leaders who described him as an irreplaceable party loyalist.

Tororo District NRM Chairperson and Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, Apollo Yeri Ofwono, praised the late Ofwono for his unwavering commitment to the party.

"Ofwono has been our leader, always defending the party even in our absence. His dedication to NRM is unmatched," MP Yeri stated.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, presented shs 13 million from the party to support burial expenses. He described the deceased as a unifying figure who avoided divisive tribal politics in Tororo.

"Can we emulate the late for his good deeds? Apiauni was truthful and never engaged in issues that would divide Tororo people," Dr. Odoi urged.

State Minister for Persons Living with Disabilities, Hellen Asamo, delivered shs10 million on behalf of the government. She commended Ofwono’s selfless service to the party.

"Despite his contributions, he never sought positions like RDC. He simply worked for the party out of love," Minister Asamo noted.

Former MP for Tororo Municipality, Sanjay Tana, appealed to the community to forgive the late Ofwono for any wrongs committed during his lifetime.

"Do not pretend while here; forgive Ofwono, for he was only human. He has gone, and we must learn to forgive and forget," Tana pleaded.

NRM leader and trade unionist Usher Wilson Owere thanked both the party and Tororo residents for ensuring that Ofwono received a dignified send-off, including a police band tribute in honor of his service.

"I appreciate NRM and the people of Tororo for fulfilling Ofwono’s final wish for a befitting burial," Owere said.

The widow, Evelyn Abbo, expressed gratitude to the mourners and well-wishers who stood by the family during the difficult time.

"I remain grateful for the overwhelming support from everyone who helped give my husband a decent send-off," she said.

Ofwono Apiauni’s legacy as a dedicated NRM cadre and community leader leaves an indelible mark on Tororo politics. His contributions to the ruling party and commitment to unity will be remembered for years to come.
