People Power means People in Power- NRM's Balyeku

By Hakim Kanyere

Jinja West legislator Moses Grace Balyeku has unveiled plans to stop People Power taking root in Busoga sub-region.

Part of his agenda is to meet all youths in Busoga and sensitize them about job creation. .

The youthful legislator says he cannot allow youths to be swayed to join Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi's People Power Movement.

Last weeks, youths in Jinja participated in Free Bobi Wine movements while also calling for the release of MP Paul Mwiru.

The youthful legislator has now embarked on a drive to meet different groups of youths in Busoga starting from his own constituency Jinja West.

According to Balyeku, this is aimed at deflating People Power circles in the Sub region which had started recruiting many youths.

He says as an NRM die-hard, he can't sit back and watch as Busoga slip into the hands of People power yet the region has been an NRM stronghold.

"People Power means people in power, so we are the people in power we shall not allow any body to confuse the youths under the guise of People power," Balyeku told the youths in Jinja.

Joined by his Butembe County counterpart Nelson Lufafa the legislators have promised to give starting capital to youths to create their own jobs.

"I have gazetted this month of September to be a month of development. I will be moving around the constituency meeting youths groups sensitising them about starting up their own small businesses and I will support them with small starting capital," Balyeku revealed.

He says MP Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) is confusing unemployed youths and that's why he wants to get youths employment.

Meanwhile, the Butembe county MP Nelson Lufafa also showed plans of replicating this idea in his constituency.

Lufafa said, "I have had of the people power in my constituency but I will also borrow my colleague's strategy of meeting youths and talk to them."

During the Free Bobi Wine protests that spread across the country, many youths in Jinja especially in Jinja East, Jinja West and Butembe county participated causing security concerns.

Ideas to neutralize the People Power circles comes after a number of politicians in Busoga have been recruited into the crusade. The latest is Mercy Walukamba who denounced and withdrew her candidature from the NRM party primaries for Bugweri District Woman MP.

At press conference in Busembatya township she revealed her intentions to stand as an independent candidate under People Power movement.
