I am a sacrifice to the struggle- Zaake

Mityana Municipality legislator, Francis Zaake has claimed he is a sacrifice to the ongoing struggle for political change in Uganda, unlike many others in the country.

Zaake made the remarks on Monday while appearing on Sanyuka Television.

He stated that despite having been a victim of torture, and physical assault, he remains unshaken and committed to advocating for change.

'I am a sacrifice to the struggle, and that is what most people lack," Zaake said

The MP also refuted accusations that he has often acted inappropriately especially in Parliament, leading to confrontations with fellow lawmakers, including General Katumba Wamala in 2017 and Kilak North MP Anthony Akol more recently.

Zaake contended that he has consistently been the target in these incidents, suggesting that Wamala and Akol should be the ones criticized for lacking decorum, as they were the aggressors.

"How many people have I assaulted? I am the one who has been attacked, yet I am said to lack decorum. When I entered Parliament in 2017, was it I who assaulted General Katumba, or was it he who assaulted me?" he questioned.

He further stated, "When I was in Arua, it was the military that assaulted me. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I was tortured. The soldiers responsible for my injuries were sanctioned by the U.S."

Zaake emphasized that the nation itself lacks decorum and that individuals like him, who are advocating for change, should not be blamed for any perceived lack of decorum.

"The situation in our country is unacceptable. We are the ones fighting against these injustices, yet we are the ones accused of lacking decorum," he concluded.
