Last November, a young mother who  faced the unimaginable challenge of giving birth just hours before sitting her exams has beaten odds to fly high according to results Primary Leaving Examination results.

According to the PLE results released on Thursday, the young mother not only completed her exams but excelled with a remarkable performance of second grade with 24 aggregates.

However, her celebrations are muted as the news of her success reached her at St. Francis Hospital in Nkokonjeru, Buikwe District, where her two months old baby was admitted after suffering from pneumonia, but her face lights up with pride at her achievement.

“I didn’t think I could pass so well, because in Mock i got grade three” she shared, recounting how she juggled pregnancy and studies. She became pregnant while in primary seven, a time when most young girls focus solely on their studies.

“Despite the challenges, I worked hard and prayed for the best,” she added.

Her future remains uncertain due to financial constraints. She dreams of becoming a doctor but fears that a lack of school fees may cut her dream short.

“I want to become a doctor but I do not know whether this will come because I am not sure whether I will pursue mu studies due to financial challenges.”

She sat her PLE exams at Butenga Church of Uganda Primary School in Bukomansimbi District under extraordinary circumstances.

After giving birth, she was admitted to Butenga Health Centre IV, from where she was transported daily to the examination centre in a car provided by Bukomansimbi’s Deputy RDC, Fred Kalema Pax.

Her baby was cared for outside the examination room as she sat her papers, and once done, she was immediately returned to the health centre to continue her recovery.

“Sometimes I was afraid I wouldn’t make it, but my teacher’s encouragement kept me going,” she said.

Currently, the young mother resides in Buikwe district but raising her child has been an uphill battle. She struggles to afford even basic necessities like milk for her baby.

The father of the child abandoned her during the pregnancy, leaving her to fend for herself.

“I’ve tried to find work, but nothing has come through,” she explained.

As she faces the future, this young mother appeals to well-wishers for support to continue her education and provide for her child. She dreams of becoming a doctor one day, a dream that could come true with the help of kind-hearted individuals.

“Education is my only hope for a better life for my child and me,” she said, her voice filled with determination.
