Democratic Alliance to Host National Convention on Electoral Reforms in March

The Democratic Alliance has announced plans to hold a national convention on transition and electoral reforms this March in Kampala.
Dr Abed Bwanika, one of the alliance’s coordinators, revealed that the convention aims to bring together key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive set of electoral reforms.
"The convention will provide a platform for all stakeholders to come together and agree on the final reforms," Dr Bwanika said.
"We believe that by working together, we can create a more inclusive and representative electoral system."
The alliance has been conducting consultations on proposed reforms, which, according to Dr Bwanika, have so far yielded positive feedback.
Several political parties, including the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), JEEMA, and the Electoral Commission, have been engaged in the process.
"We have also reached out to the National Unity Platform (NUP) for their input on the reforms," he added.
"Although they have not responded to our letter yet, we remain optimistic that they will join this effort."
To encourage citizen participation, the Democratic Alliance has established a dedicated desk at their Namirembe headquarters, where Ugandans can submit proposals on electoral reforms.
The alliance also plans to launch a nationwide tour next month, engaging cultural leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders in all regions of Uganda.
"The consultations will culminate in the national convention in Kampala, where all stakeholders will converge to finalise the reforms," Dr Bwanika explained.
"We are committed to ensuring this process is inclusive and representative of all Ugandans."
The Democratic Alliance’s initiative underscores its commitment to fostering meaningful electoral reforms that promote fairness, inclusivity, and representation in Uganda’s political landscape.
