Some Political Actors are threatening the success of political change - PPP

The People's Progressive Party (PPP) has pledged to work with the Democratic Alliance to push for electoral reforms ahead of the 2026 general elections in Uganda.
This commitment was made after a meeting between the two parties at the PPP headquarters in Ntinda.
"We have reviewed all the electoral, transition, and constitutional reforms drafted by the Democratic Alliance, and all these proposals align with what the People's Progressive Party has in progress," said Sadam Gayira, the PPP Chairperson.
The PPP warned that some political actors are threatening the success of political change in the country and advised them to rethink their approaches.
In a spirit of collaboration, the PPP has agreed to set up a committee to work with the Democratic Alliance to redraft the proposals and create a unified voice.
The PPP also expressed dissatisfaction with the current implementation of the Political Parties and Organizations Act of 2005, particularly regarding the sharing of government funds allocated to political parties.
"There is an urgent need to change the law so that all parties registered with the electoral commission are allocated funds," Gayira emphasized.
Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the interim leader of the Democratic Alliance, commended the PPP's reception and stressed the urgent need for all change-seeking forces to fast-track electoral reforms.
"We must work together to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in 2026," Mpuuga said.
Mpuuga also criticized politicians who oppose changes to electoral laws while complaining about the ongoing voter registration process.
"We cannot afford to delay reforms any further," he added.
