The government has awarded the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, for his remarkable efforts in advancing wealth creation through the Mmwanyi Terimba (Coffee is Wealth) campaign.

Presented on January 17, 2025, the award acknowledges Kabaka Mutebi’s leadership in mobilising his subjects to embrace coffee farming as a path to economic growth and self-reliance.

The award citation reads: "This award is presented to Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for his exceptional contribution towards the promotion of wealth creation through coffee growing in his community."

Signed by Betty Amongi, the minister of gender, labour, and social development, the award reflects the government’s recognition of the Kabaka’s impact in fostering agricultural development and empowering households in Buganda.

Under Kabaka Mutebi’s guidance, the Mmwanyi Terimba Campaign has encouraged families in Buganda to prioritize coffee cultivation as a commercial venture.

The initiative aligns with Uganda’s national goal of boosting coffee production to 20 million bags annually by 2030.

The campaign has not only promoted sustainable farming practices but also provided farmers with resources and skills to improve their livelihoods, strengthening the coffee sector as a cornerstone of Uganda’s economy.

Kabaka Mutebi’s leadership in championing coffee farming continues to serve as an inspiration, highlighting agriculture’s potential to drive community transformation and economic prosperity.
