While paying his condolences at the planned official grounds in Kadugala, a few meters away from where Ssegirinya’s body was held by NUP, Mpuuga, the area MP, voiced his frustration over the denial of parliamentary involvement in the burial arrangements.

Parliamentary Commissioner and Member of Parliament for Nyendo Mukungwe, Mathias Mpuuga, has expressed his displeasure with the National Unity Platform (NUP) for allegedly denying Muhammad Ssegirinya, the former Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, a dignified sendoff at his ancestral home in Masaka District yesterday.

The farewell ceremony was marred by dramatic events, with two parallel venues organized by factions of NUP and Mpuuga’s supporters, leaving mourners confused.

While paying his condolences at the planned official grounds in Kadugala, a few meters away from where Ssegirinya’s body was held by NUP, Mpuuga, the area MP, voiced his frustration over the denial of parliamentary involvement in the burial arrangements.

He also criticised the refusal to allow the police band to perform its duties.

“I was not groomed to fight for dead bodies, and all those acting like night dancers never visited him at Rubaga hospital. I even posted on my social media about his condition, but no one responded,” Mpuuga stated.

In a related development, Member of Parliament for Kampala, Muhammad Nsereko, took to social media to criticize the events in Kadugala as inhumane and uncivilized.

Nsereko publicly terminated his ties with NUP, stating, "I want to make it clear, my ties with NUP are over, and there is no room for reconciliation. Yesterday’s actions were inhumane. Let everyone stay in their lane. How could you humiliate the body of Honorable Ssegirinya to that extent? No way, it can’t happen."

Nsereko also dismissed accusations made at the funeral suggesting that individuals in government or Parliament contributed to Ssegirinya’s death.

“No, that’s not true. Ssegirinya had underlying health issues. When he was sworn in, he came from a Nairobi hospital bedridden, and his arrest and denial of specialized treatment could have been contributing factors. But those who are blaming others for his death have abandoned many orphans, only to use politicking for their own gain,” Nsereko stated.

During yesterday's NBSTV political talk show, "Eagle," Mubarak Munyagwa, a mentor of Ssegirinya and an activist, recalled the tragic events during their time in activism.

He narrated how Ssegirinya was accidentally struck by a paver during riots in downtown, rendering him unconscious until he was taken to the hospital.
