The two cities of Jinja in Uganda and Shinyang in China have renewed their cooperation.

Jinja City and Shenyang City  in China have revived  their partnership, aimed at fostering collaboration in trade and investment, education, health, culture, sports, human resources development, and other fields.

The partnership, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, was revived after Dr. Anthony Mula, Director General of the Busoga Consortium, led a delegation to Shenyang City in November 2024.

During a ceremony at Jinja City Hall, Dr. Mula handed over a special message from Shenyang City's Mayor, Mr. Lyu Zhicheng, to Jinja City's Mayor, Kasolo Peter Okotcha.

Mr. Lyu conveyed his appreciation for the cooperation and invited Mayor Kasolo to lead a delegation to Shenyang to jointly host the "Hello, Shenyang" International Sister City Mayor Exchange Day Event.

Mayor Kasolo welcomed the renewed partnership.

"The reactivation of our cooperation is a testament to the resilience of our collaboration and the shared vision we have with Shenyang City to drive development and mutual prosperity."

The restored partnership is expected to bring tangible benefits, including increased trade opportunities, cultural exchange programs, and strengthened educational and healthcare programs.

The two cities also plan to promote chili cultivation in the Busoga region, with support from the China-Uganda Agriculture Cooperation Industrial Park in Luwero.

As Jinja and Shenyang embark on this new chapter, their focus remains on achieving practical outcomes that will benefit the people of their two cities and countries.
