Ssegirinya Muhammad, report to God how you have been part of a mingled and disorganised political party

Busia Municipality MP Geoffrey Macho has urged the fallen Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya to communicate Uganda's political and legal challenges to God, referencing his experiences as part of what he described as a “disorganised political party.”

“Ssegirinya Muhammad, report to God how you have been part of a mingled and disorganised political party,” MP Macho said.

Speaking during a special tribute session in Parliament, MP Macho highlighted Uganda’s legal and political struggles, including issues surrounding bail denial, the use of military courts for civilians, and general political disorganisation.

“Ssegirinya Muhammad, alias Mr. Update, I want you to update God about this situation—that in this century, Uganda is still denying people bail and bond,” he said.

The legislator described Ssegirinya as a man of the people who possessed admirable leadership qualities, noting his dedication to his constituents and his advocacy for social justice.

Macho also expressed gratitude to the Speaker of Parliament and other parliamentary leaders for their support during Ssegirinya’s tenure. He implored the late MP to request blessings for them as they continue their duties.

Ssegirinya, who represented Kawempe North, passed away on Thursday at Rubaga Hospital following a prolonged illness. He was 37 years old.

His death has left a void in Parliament, with MPs praising his humor, dedication, and passion for grassroots development.

During the session, MPs described Ssegirinya as a committed leader who championed the rights of ordinary Ugandans and tirelessly worked for the betterment of his community.

Ssegirinya had been battling severe health challenges since his release from prison, and reports indicate that his condition worsened despite medical interventions.

Preparations are underway for his burial, scheduled for Sunday, January 12, in Masaka District.
