Members of Parliament have raised Shs150 million to support the family of the late Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, following his passing on Thursday, January 8, 2025, at Rubaga Hospital.

Each MP contributed Shs300,000 during a special parliamentary session held on Friday, January 10, to honor Ssegirinya’s legacy.

During the session, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among paid glowing tribute to Ssegirinya, describing him as a committed leader who passionately advocated for grassroots development and championed the rights of ordinary Ugandans.

“I met with the family of our late brother, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, to discuss arrangements for his dignified send-off. He served the people of Kawempe North with great commitment, and his dedication will be deeply missed,” Among said.

The Speaker had earlier held a meeting with Ssegirinya’s family at Parliament to offer her condolences and discuss funeral arrangements.

Ssegirinya, aged 37 at the time of his death, had been battling severe health challenges since his release from prison.

Reports indicate that his condition worsened despite efforts to seek medical attention.

Preparations are underway for Ssegirinya’s burial, scheduled for Sunday, January 12, in Masaka District.
