Gen Muhoozi Quits Social Media
Notable among these were threats expell US Ambassador to Uganda and capture Nairobi and Sudan, which strained Uganda’s relations with the nations.
After a decade of active engagement, Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has deactivated his account on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The account, which had amassed over a million followers, is no longer accessible.
Muhoozi, who is also the First Son, joined X in August 2014 and became known for his outspoken and often controversial posts.
In his final statement, shared six hours before deactivating his account, Muhoozi cited the need to focus on his military responsibilities as the reason for his departure.
“To all my Dear followers, it has been a great whirlwind and rousing journey together on these streets for the last 10 years since 2014. However, the time has now come under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ to leave and concentrate on His army, the UPDF,” Muhoozi wrote.
He assured his followers of a possible return in the future, saying, “At an appropriate time, when it becomes important and after fulfilling the Almighty God's immediate assignment to restore everlasting peace and security to all His people in our region, we shall always re-converge.”
Muhoozi urged his followers to continue supporting Uganda and President Museveni.
In recent years, the general's posts often made headlines, sparking both domestic and international reactions.
Notable among these were threats expell US Ambassador to Uganda and capture Nairobi and Sudan, which strained Uganda’s relations with the nations.
But there were also those that glorified women, always pouring adulation for his wife Charlotte and Rwandan one, as well as most recently joking that he wanted American popstar Beyonce.
His frequent online attacks on National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, also drew widespread attention.
Muhoozi referred to Kyagulanyi as a “rebel leader” and issued inflammatory threats, declaring at one point, “Kabobi, I am going to BEAT the CRAP OUT of you… Just utter my name or my family’s name again, and I will break all those monkey teeth of yours.”
These statements were dismissed by Kyagulanyi, who characterized them as part of a larger government strategy to intimidate and suppress opposition voices.
Muhoozi's departure from social media has fueled speculation about his political ambitions.
Known for using the platform to hint at his presidential aspirations, he has previously expressed intentions of seeking Uganda’s top position, following in the footsteps of his father, President Museveni, who has ruled since 1986.
For now, General Muhoozi has pledged to focus on his role in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, leaving his millions of followers to ponder the future of his political and public engagement.
