Presidential Permanent Secretary Hajji Yunus Kakande, who is also the Chairperson of the National Organising Committee for Liberation Day 2025 in Mubende District, met earlier today with Mubende stakeholders to discuss preparations for the celebrations.

The meeting was held at the National Teachers’ College in Mubende District, where the event is expected to take place on 26th January 2025.

The meeting was attended by district Members of Parliament, the RDC’s office, and other members of the National Organising Committee.

Hajji Kakande emphasised the need for Mubende’s leadership to ensure the success of the celebrations. “We have a saying that when you lose a relative, it is you who feels the pain and must act, even where others fear to. I am expecting Mubende to spearhead the preparations,” he stated.

Kakande also raised concerns about feeding the attendees. “We have 19 sub-counties in Mubende, and we must ensure that each is provided with a bull and rice to cater for the welfare of our people,” he said.

“This engagement meeting is to accelerate preparations for Liberation Day. I want to remind you that, on that day, we do not expect people to make bulk requests to the President. It is a day for celebration,” he added.

Mubende Municipality Mayor Innocent Ssekiziivu reported to Hajji Kakande that they had approached officials at the UNRA offices in Mubende to request graders but had yet to receive a response. “When we wrote to them, they informed us that all machines had been recalled to the offices and were waiting for orders from the Ministry of Works,” Ssekiziivu explained.

In response, Kakande promised to follow up with the Ministry of Works to ensure the machines are released. “I will talk to the authorities in the Ministry of Works to ensure they instruct the UNRA officials in Mubende to release the graders,” he assured.

Kassambya Constituency MP David Kabanda appreciated Hajji Kakande for empowering the Mubende team. “I want to thank Hajji Kakande for today’s meeting, and I assure the nation that we are ready to host the President on 26th January 2025,” Kabanda said.

“For those who attended General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s function in Kassambya last year, you saw that some roads were blocked. If we are going to host the President, it means our people should adapt to some changes to ensure the President’s safety,” he added.

Kabanda also appreciated Kakande for promising to follow up on securing machines to repair diversionary roads. “I want to thank him because if we repair these roads in time, our people can start using them and get accustomed to them, instead of opening them on the very day of the function,” he said.
