Speaker of Parliament Anita Among yesterday met with the family of the late Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, to offer her condolences and discuss funeral arrangements.

The meeting, which took place at Parliament, was a somber occasion as the Speaker and the family reflected on the life and legacy of the late MP.
In a post on her social media platform, Among expressed her heartfelt condolences to Ssegirinya's family, the people of Kawempe North, and the country at large.
"I met with the family of our late brother, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, to discuss arrangements for his dignified send-off," Among said. "He served the people of Kawempe North with great commitment, and his dedication will be deeply missed".
Ssegirinya's death was announced earlier today, with reports indicating that he had been battling serious health issues since his release from prison.
The late MP was known for his grassroots approach and his commitment to serving the most vulnerable in his constituency.
As the country mourns the loss of Ssegirinya, preparations are underway for his burial, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Masaka District.
The Parliament of Uganda will also pay tribute to the late MP on Friday, January 10, 2025.
