Traffic Disruptions as Uganda Hosts African Union Summit
Transport workers and road users have raised concerns over disruptions to daily operations as Uganda hosts the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Agriculture at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
To facilitate smooth movement for over 2,000 delegates from 49 African nations, including various leaders, traffic police have temporarily closed key roads, including the Kampala-Entebbe Express Highway, Northern Bypass, and Yusuf Lule Road.
Alternative routes such as the Entebbe Highway via Mpala, Nakawuka Road, Kajjansi Flyover, and UCB Road via Buziga-Lukuli have been recommended. Areas such as Busega, Sentema, Nansana, and Bwaise face restricted access, especially near key junctions.
Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura assured the public that closures will only occur during delegate movements and urged compliance to minimize disruptions.
While speaking to NBS Television, taxi and boda-boda operators stated that they are ready to follow these directives but have requested the government to always inform them in time about such plans that directly affect them.
The three-day summit focuses on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Plan for 2026–2035.
