The water challenges faced by residents of Kinyamugara Parish in Kicheche Sub-County, Kitagwenda District, may soon become a thing of the past as district leaders outline plans to address the acute water scarcity.

For years, women and children in Kinyamugara have trekked over 2 kilometers daily in search of water for domestic use, relying on a single stream that dries up during the dry season.

However, local leaders and district authorities have pledged to prioritize the area in upcoming development plans.

“Kinyamugara Parish is the only parish in the sub-county without access to safe, clean water,” said Didrick Mutahigwa Katongore, the Kicheche Sub-County Chairperson.

“While road connectivity is being improved, the water crisis remains a significant challenge. We have raised this issue with the district water department multiple times, and we hope for action soon.”

The District Water Officer, Peter Sseremba, assured residents that their concerns are being addressed. “We are planning to conduct an assessment in Kinyamugara Parish to determine a sustainable water source,” Sseremba explained.

“This assessment will help us include the area in the next financial year’s budget for 2025/2026.”

Kitagwenda District Chairperson, Ismail Mushemeza, also shared plans for a collaborative solution.

“We are working on a memorandum of understanding with Ibanda District to extend water pipes from their system into Kitagwenda,” Mushemeza revealed.

“This partnership will ensure Kinyamugara residents gain access to clean, safe water.”

With Kitagwenda District already achieving an impressive 83% water coverage, these new initiatives demonstrate a commitment to ensuring no community is left behind.

The residents of Kinyamugara Parish can now look forward to lasting solutions that will bring safe water closer to their homes.

“This is a much-needed step,” said a hopeful resident. “We are grateful for the plans and look forward to seeing them implemented.”

As efforts gain momentum, the future looks promising for Kinyamugara Parish, where access to safe, clean water will soon become a reality.
