Kabaka Calls on Buganda to Embrace Agriculture and Environmental Conservation
The Buganda Kingdom has prioritised agriculture as a cornerstone for economic growth and sustainability.
The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, has called on his people to adopt farming, livestock rearing, and environmental conservation as essential strategies for development.
His message, delivered by Nnaalinnya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, came during a workshop attended by county chiefs, deputies, and agricultural officers.
The event, held at thekingdom’s tourism offices in Mengo, was part of the Dream Hub Project, led by Kabaka Foundation in collaboration with Heifer International Uganda.

The Kabaka has consistently encouraged his subjects to grow coffee, a cash crop that boosts household incomes while enhancing food security through intercropping.
The kingdom also advocates for modern farming techniques and livestock rearing to diversify agricultural activities.
In his directive, the Kabaka tasked county chiefs with mobilizing communities to adopt these practices, emphasizing that agriculture is central to the Kingdom’s progress.
He commended the Mott Foundation and Heifer International Uganda for their support of the initiative, which aims to improve the livelihoods of Buganda’s people.
Hajj Hamis Kakomo, the Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Trade, urged subjects to actively participate in the program. “This initiative aims to improve household incomes and ensure food security for families across the Kingdom. You should all engage in agriculture and modern farming,” Kakomo emphasized.
Edward Kaggwa Ndagala, CEO of Kabaka Foundation, announced plans to establish demonstration farms in every county.
These farms will showcase advanced farming and livestock techniques, equipping the Kingdom's people with skills to succeed in agriculture.
William Matovu, CEO of Heifer International Uganda, highlighted the program’s focus on youth engagement, providing them with sustainable livelihoods and strengthening Buganda’s agricultural sector.
This initiative is expected to play a significant role in advancing the Kingdom’s prosperity while fostering environmental conservation.
