The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga has urged musicians to steer clear of violence and instead promote peace and unity.

His call came in response to recent altercations between artists Pius Mayanja, known as Pallaso, and Patrick Mulwana, also known as Alien Skin.

The two artists' factions, recently labeled as Eggaali (gangs), were involved in a brawl during a music concert in Buloba, raising concerns among concert attendees and music industry stakeholders.

On Tuesday, Mayiga encouraged artists to channel their talents into positive endeavours rather than engaging in violent behavior, warning of serious consequences.

He emphasised the importance of discipline and suggested that reconciliation should be the preferred method for resolving conflicts instead of resorting to physical confrontations.

"You must practice discipline, as it is crucial for musicians to avoid violence. Recently, Alien Skin and Pallaso fought and nearly harmed each other. Why not come together, address their differences, and allow us to help them resolve their issues? Mayiga questioned.

He added, "What drives them to the point of using hammers and machetes? What if someone were to die as a result of these actions?"

He also pointed out that violent behaviours instill fear among concert attendees.

"Many of us are now hesitant to attend their concerts. What if I go to Alien Skin's show and end up being attacked with machetes or stones? What is causing this conflict that prevents reconciliation?"

He concluded, "The strength of artists lies not in gangs but in their ability to grow their talents. I first heard of Alien Skin last year when someone informed me that Pallaso had slapped him. Before that, I had never even heard of Alien."

Last week, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that Alien Skin had filed a case against Pallaso, citing money theft, destruction of five vehicles, and damage to building windows.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the conflict began during a performance at a venue in Buloba, Wakiso District, and escalated to the attack on Alien Skin’s residence,” Onyango said.

The actions of the two artists have since sparked demands to eliminate gangs from the music industry and to apprehend those responsible.
