Rotary International president Stephanie Urchick has arrived in Uganda to commence her historic “African Magic Tour 2025,” a journey through five African nations to celebrate Rotary’s transformative impact across the continent.
Her arrival marks the first stop of a seven-day visit in Uganda, during which she will engage with Rotarians, visit impactful community projects, and spotlight the organization’s role in advancing peace, education, healthcare, and environmental protection.
Speaking to the press shortly after her welcoming ceremony hosted by Rotary District Governor Ann Nkutu and members of the organizing committee led by Ken Wycliffe Mugisha, President Urchick expressed her excitement to witness the “magic” of Rotary in Uganda.
She praised the country for its remarkable growth in membership and contributions, highlighting Uganda’s distinction as the home of Africa’s only Rotary Peace Center at Makerere University.
“Uganda’s contributions to Rotary exemplify the belief that giving works,” President Urchick said.
“Rotary’s role is not to block peace but to build it. Through our Four-Way Test, we challenge Rotarians not only to recite these values but to live them.”
District Governor Ann Nkutu reiterated Uganda’s commitment to Rotary’s ideals, emphasizing the organization’s impact through initiatives in health, education, and community development.
“We look forward to showcasing what Rotary is achieving in Uganda and strengthening our partnerships for an even brighter future,” she said.
District Governor Agnes Batenga Mungati, another notable Rotarian present, highlighted the motivational significance of President Urchick’s visit, calling it a source of inspiration for local Rotarians.
Past District Governor and International Director Nominee Emmanuel Katongole underscored Uganda’s leading role in Rotary growth per capita in Africa.
He noted that the President’s visit would galvanize Rotarians to amplify their efforts in transforming lives across the country.
President Urchick’s itinerary includes visits to ongoing Rotary projects across Uganda, showcasing the tangible results of Rotary’s work in peacebuilding, health, and education.
Her tour will extend to Kenya, Senegal, Tunisia, and Egypt before concluding at Rotary’s global headquarters in Evanston, USA, on January 27, 2025.
Prominent Rotarians at the event included Trustee to the Rotary Foundation Pearl Ijeoma, District Governor Ann Nkutu, and past District Governor Mike Sebalu and District Rotary Representative JB Sengoba.
The “African Magic Tour 2025” embodies this year’s Rotary International theme, “The Magic of Rotary,” a celebration of the organization’s enduring commitment to service and fellowship worldwide.
