The theme for this year, “Our rights, our future, right now,” underscores the daily impact of human rights on people everywhere.
Kisakye highlighted the interconnectedness of human rights issues, with a particular focus on gender and economic inequalities.
“As women, we have a unique perspective on the challenges faced by marginalised communities worldwide,” she said.
The league called on citizens to adhere to international human rights laws, ensuring dignity and respect for all, regardless of gender, tribe, or religion.
It urged the government and stakeholders to prioritise women’s rights, including access to education, healthcare, and protection from violence.
The statement also demanded decisive action to eliminate all forms of discrimination, promote social justice, and create a world where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Kisakye stressed the need to invest in human rights defenders who work tirelessly to protect and advance fundamental freedoms.
“A world where human rights are respected is a world of peace, prosperity, and justice,” Kisakye noted, urging collective efforts to build a future where dignity and freedom are guaranteed for all.
