Kitagwenda District has embarked on a transformative journey to enhance local infrastructure and empower farmers with the launch of the Ruhagura-Bwera road rehabilitation project.

The 14-kilometer stretch, which connects Kabujogera Town Council to Kicheche Sub-County, is a lifeline for coffee farmers and traders transporting produce to neighboring Ibanda District.

The rehabilitation project, unveiled during a launch event at Kinyungu Trading Center in Kicheche Sub-County, is a testament to the district's commitment to boosting trade and improving livelihoods.

The District Mechanical Engineer, Sam Ayebazibwe, representing the acting District Engineer Moses Tugume, outlined the project's scope and significance.“

This project is crucial for supporting farmers and improving transport in the district. We are committed to ensuring quality work and addressing key challenges,” Ayebazibwe stated.

The shs140 million rehabilitation executed under a force-on-account approach, includes putting murram, culvert installations, and other essential repairs.

District Chairperson Ismael Mushemeza commended the residents for their patience and resilience, assuring them that the long-awaited project is just the beginning

.“Your patience has not been in vain. This road is a priority, and we are taking steps to rehabilitate it. We are also planning to work on the Kinyamugara road soon,” Mushemeza announced.

He also called on the community to embrace voluntary service (burungi bwansi) to maintain the road’s sustainability.

The district’s Woman Member of Parliament, Dorothy Nyakato Nzibonera, expressed her unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure, promising to lobby for additional resources.

“We are doing all we can to secure more equipment, including a water bowser, road roller, and truck, to complement the two machines already acquired this year through the Ministry of Works,” Nzibonera affirmed.

Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nicholas Nuwagira emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the project’s execution.

“We expect the engineers to deliver quality work and demonstrate value for money. I encourage residents to monitor progress and report any instances of shoddy work directly to my office,” Nuwagira said.

The Ruhagura-Bwera road rehabilitation marks a pivotal step in Kitagwenda’s development agenda.

Beyond enhancing transport, the project is set to improve agricultural trade, uplift the local economy, and transform the lives of residents.

With collaborative efforts and continued investment, Kitagwenda is poised for a brighter, more connected future.
