Students of Kyambogo University have given government a 12-hour ultimatum to unconditionally release  MP Robert Kyagulanyi (aka Bobi Wine) and other the legislators or else they embark on street protests.

Addressing journalists today, the students who were holding placards in support of Bobi Wine and other MPs said  they will not sit back and watch the country sink into chaos with security operatives beating up people as if they are beating cattle.

"We will not sit and just look at what is going on in the country, as students we are coming to show our grievances," said John Mbazira, a student leader.

Another student Edrin Tumusiime said they had given government 12 hours to release the opposition politicians.

The students said they will also not attend lectures when the country is going through turmoil.

"We are going to declare a week free of lectures and go to the street. We are just waiting for what will come from court martial tomorrow and react."

Kyagulanyi is scheduled to appear at the General Court Martial tomorrow.
