Michael Toyota Nuwagira, vice chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has refuted claims that Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Ssekikubo is related to the Kaguta family.
Addressing residents in Ntusi Town Council on Thursday, Toyota clarified that while President Museveni once assisted in Ssekikubo’s education, this does not establish a familial bond.
“The President helped to educate Ssekikubo, but this does not mean he is part of our family. Let us be clear about that,” Toyota stated, seeking to dispel rumors that have fueled resentment among constituents.
The allegations stem from repeated complaints by Lwemiyaga residents, who accuse Ssekikubo of exploiting perceived ties to State House to evade accountability.
Residents claim the MP dismisses their concerns with remarks suggesting he is untouchable.
John Ambasiize, a resident of Ntusi, shared his frustration: “Whenever we complain, Ssekikubo tells us, ‘I come from State House, and nothing will happen to me.’ This has left us feeling powerless.”
In response, Toyota turned the spotlight back on the electorate, criticizing them for re-electing Ssekikubo despite their grievances.
“You are the ones who vote for him every term. If he is truly a problem, the power to change leadership lies in your hands,” he said.
Residents, however, insist that their grievances, including alleged mistreatment and neglect by the MP, have gone unaddressed despite repeated appeals to the government and State House.
“We have complained to the government and State House multiple times, but no action has been taken. Ssekikubo’s arrogance and neglect have made him a burden to us,” they said.
The ongoing accusations and denials have left Lwemiyaga in political turmoil. While some residents call for immediate government intervention, others are beginning to reflect on their role in perpetuating Ssekikubo’s leadership through repeated electoral victories.
Efforts to reach MP Ssekikubo for comment remain unsuccessful as his known contacts remain unreachable.
