Police led by the Kampala Central Police Station commander Joseph Bakaleke are on the scene. Police have fired bullets and teargas and an operation to clear the road is underway.

Police has been reinforced by Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers to restore calm downtown.

The protest comes hours after a protest in Mityana on Sunday, August 19, 2018 left one dead and six others injured. The protest was over the arrest and alleged torture of Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake.
