The Special Forces Command has distanced itself from a man who identified himself as one of their soldiers who was arrested at the National Unity Platform headquarters at Kavule in Kampala.
In a statement, SFC spokesperson, Maj Jimmy Omara said they have been made aware of a viral picture of a man named Sulaiman Watuke who was arrested at NUP headquarters on Sunday and is said to be one of their own.
Maj Omara said the suspect has never been part of SFC.
“ Social media was awash with information that he belongs to Special Force Command (SFC) but his details are not reflected in our register, and as well in the UPDF records or system,” Maj Omara said.
“ The identification card that was found on him has the institutional name of SFC but lacks the security features that define our cards. It's forged and lacking in many aspects. It was meant to hoodwink unsuspecting persons.”
The SFC spokesperson said whereas they are yet to contact the National Identification and Registration Authority to furnish them further with details of the suspect, preliminary information indicates he is a masquerader.
“ We have reported a case of impersonation to police and investigation has commenced to that effect,” Maj Omara said.
He also applauded members of the public for being vigilant on “such persons.”
