Kenyan President William Ruto expressed optimism about the Tumaini Initiative’s progress in fostering peace and stability in South Sudan, reaffirming Kenya’s support for the region’s security and development.
In a recent post on his X account, President Ruto highlighted Kenya’s ongoing commitment to South Sudan’s peace process and lauded the initiative’s role in achieving positive outcomes for the South Sudanese people.

On Monday, Ruto met with the High-Level Standing Committee for South Sudan, led by South Sudan’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia Lomuro, who conveyed a message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The meeting focused on advancing the Tumaini Initiative, a key peacebuilding framework aimed at resolving conflicts and stabilizing the nation, which has faced protracted internal strife.
“Peace and security in our region have significantly been boosted by the close collaboration between us and our partners around the world,” President Ruto stated. “As a result, we have substantially rolled back the threat of terrorism, radicalization, violent extremism, and organised crime.”
He reiterated the regional leadership’s commitment to curbing destabilising forces, stating that Kenya and its allies will continue to counter threats to peace, stability, and economic development.
In related efforts to enhance regional security, President Ruto also met with U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William J. Burns at State House, Nairobi.
The discussions underscored the deepening security cooperation between Kenya and the United States, with a particular focus on counterterrorism and intelligence sharing.
The Tumaini Initiative reflects Kenya’s dedication to peace building in South Sudan, a critical element in promoting stability and development across East Africa. Ruto’s commitment to this endeavour signals Kenya’s leadership role in bolstering regional peace and prosperity.
