Family of Bobi Wine driver want Singer, Museveni take care of his 11 children, 3 wives

The family of slain driver Yasin Kawuma, who was allegedly hit by a stray bullet in the Arua gun fire, wants government to explain circumstances under which their relative was killed on top of committing to take care of his family.

The family also demand that singer cum politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine contribute to the support of the 11 children and three wives his driver has left behind.

According to the family, Kawuma has been Bobi Wine's official driver for a year now.

“Bobi Wine called Kawuma to drive him to Arua and he died while in service to him so he should take care of his family,” one of the mourners at the family home in Lusanja, Kiteezi, Wakiso district said.

However, according to one of Kawuma’s wives, a one Annet Nansubuga, the deceased did not inform her on his journey to Arua.

“He told me he was going to Bugiri for a job as a driver,” Nansubuga said

Tears and sorrow as well as accusations ran high at the home, with mourners seeking accountability from government.

“How can you aim a gun at a car with people, why didn’t they cane or teargas him instead of shooting him,” one of the mourners wondered painfully.

Kawuma’s elder brother and also singer Spark Ssebabi cast doubt on the possibility of giving the deceased a befitting burial in time, adding that the family is unaware of the whereabouts of the body.

“We don’t know when they (government) will give us the body, or when we will bury him, we are just still shocked with this death,” he said.

Kawuma’s family is bitter that the state has consistently displayed high handedness and a threat to aspiring politicians.

Kawuma was also a football coach at Mineral soccer academy owned by Kitezi Primary School and with his demise, the school is stuck without an immediate replacement.

“He has been helping so many children much as he did not have money himself,” Isaac Oguttu, Kawuma’s friend said.
