Ssenyonyi Raises Concerns Over ROKO Construction Delays And Condemns Violence

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has voiced concerns over delayed infrastructural projects managed by ROKO Construction Company, despite significant government investment.

During a recent oversight visit to ROKO's offices, Ssenyonyi highlighted several unfinished projects, citing Parliament chambers and the Inspector General of Government (IGG) House as key examples of projects that remain incomplete.

In a report presented to Parliament, Ssenyonyi underscored the need for accountability in government investments. He expressed disappointment over the slow progress on crucial government infrastructure, even after public funds had been allocated to support the construction company's operations.

“Despite government’s investment in ROKO, some infrastructural projects have not been completed," he stated.

In addition to addressing construction delays, Ssenyonyi used the platform to condemn all forms of violence, emphasising the need for peace and respect for human rights across various sectors of society.

"I want to condemn violence generally, whether it happens in homes, against an officer on duty, or by an officer against a civilian," he said.

His remarks come at a time when several incidents of violence, including confrontations between civilians and law enforcement officers, have raised public concern.

Ssenyonyi emphasised that professionalism should be upheld by all, particularly in law enforcement, and acknowledged the dedication of officers who have performed their duties with integrity.

He took a moment to salute security officers who have demonstrated professionalism in their line of work, singling out traffic officer Abdallah Tumusiime as a prime example.

"I have seen this police officer, Abdallah Tumusiime, on the road for about four years now. He is very passionate about the work that he does," he noted.

Tumusiime has recently gained public admiration for his commitment to traffic control, often under difficult conditions.

Ssenyonyi's comments reflect a balanced approach, praising officers who serve with distinction while also urging the public to condemn violence and ensure accountability in all spheres of society.

As the Leader of the Opposition continues to push for transparency and efficiency in government projects, the delays in ROKO's construction projects remain a key area of concern.

At the same time, Ssenyonyi's call for non-violence and professionalism serves as a timely reminder of the importance of mutual respect and adherence to the rule of law in Ugandan society.
