The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Speaker, Joseph Ntakirutimana, expressed optimism about the East African Community's (EAC) progress, citing tangible achievements that have attracted new member states.
"We have made significant strides despite existing challenges," Ntakirutimana said. "Our achievements have made more states want to join the community."
Ahead of the 1st sitting of the 3rd session of the 5th Assembly in Uganda, Ntakirutimana outlined key business to be conducted, including processing of three bills, introducing private members' bills, engaging with stakeholders and discussing reports on election management
On allegations of mismanagement at the EAC Secretariat, Ntakirutimana assured that investigations are complete, and a report will be tabled and discussed during the session.
"We have concluded investigations, and the report will be discussed soon," he said.
Regarding regional security, the Committee on Peace and Security will visit Juba to assess the implementation of the peace agreement.
On trade bottlenecks and harassment of traders, Ntakirutimana said, "A lot is being done to address these issues."
President Yoweri Museveni will officially open the session at Entebbe State House on Tuesday.
