People's Party Condemns Intimidation Against Lumu Stand
The People's Progressive Party (PPP) has come out strongly against some opposition leaders, accusing them of intimidation and blackmail directed at Richard Lumu, the Mityana South MP, over his proposal to elect the Leader of Opposition.
Sadam Gayira, National Chairperson of the PPP, expressed his dismay while presenting the party's views on the Administration of Parliament Amendment Bill, 2024, to the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

"We express our dismay over the intimidation, character assassination, and blackmail the mover of the Bill has been subjected to, by some leaders in the Opposition," Gayira stated.
Gayira emphasised that regardless of the bill's merits, the personal attacks on Lumu were unjustified.
"Whether the Bill was good or bad, it was wrong to intimidate him, to malign him or character assassinate him," he added.
The controversy surrounds Lumu's proposal to introduce a private member's bill, seeking to change the way the Leader of Opposition is selected.
The bill has sparked heated debate, with some opposition parties rejecting the proposals.
The development highlights the deepening divisions within Uganda's opposition, with some leaders calling for reforms and others resisting changes to the status quo.
