Akena Urges Gen Muhoozi to 'Approach Diplomatic Issues with Caution'
Akena called for serious national conversations about the future direction of Uganda.
Uganda People's Congress (UPC) president, Jimmy Akena, has advised General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the president’s son, to adopt a more diplomatic approach in handling diplomatic matters.
“Children often echo what they hear at home. As usual, Daddy will manage his issues with the US Embassy, but Gen Muhoozi should learn to deal with diplomatic matters in a more refined manner,” Akena stated.
In addition, Akena called for serious national conversations about the future direction of Uganda.
Speaking ahead of the country’s Independence celebrations, he expressed concerns about the current state of governance.
“It’s high time Ugandans engaged in meaningful dialogue about where this country is heading. There’s no real independence to celebrate when most sectors are controlled by a single individual,” Akena remarked.
His comments come amid a growing debate regarding Uganda's political landscape. Akena suggested that true independence and progress remain elusive for many Ugandans due to centralised control.
He emphasised the importance of reflection on the country’s future and advocated for steps towards a more inclusive governance system.
As Uganda prepares to mark its Independence Day, Akena’s remarks have sparked discussions about the state of democracy and governance in the nation.
