NIRA Launches Mobile Registration Units to Improve Access to Services
This initiative aims to address accessibility challenges faced by citizens

According to a recent post on NIRA's X account, these units will operate on customized schedules in partnership with local leaders, targeting locations where people gather.

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has launched mobile registration units across Uganda to enhance public access to essential services, including national IDs and birth certificates.

According to a recent post on NIRA's X account, these units will operate on customized schedules in partnership with local leaders, targeting locations where people gather.

"You will often see us at marketplaces, health centres, schools, places of worship, expos, trade fairs, or any venue that attracts crowds," NIRA stated.

This initiative aims to address accessibility challenges faced by citizens, particularly in rural areas where NIRA offices are often located far away.

With national identification coverage at 81% as of 2023, the mobile units are expected to bridge the service delivery gap, ensuring that all Ugandans can conveniently obtain vital registration services.

The rollout of these mobile units also supports the government's digital transformation agenda, which seeks to streamline public service access.

National IDs are crucial for accessing education and social security, among other services, making this initiative essential for improving the lives of millions of Ugandans who struggle with identification challenges.
