Final Census 2024 Results to Be Released on Thursday
According to UBOS, the main report will address three essential questions: How do we live? What do we own? Where do we access services?
In a letter dated September 26, 2024, Dr. Chris Mukiza, Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), announced that the final results of the recently concluded National Census and Housing Population will be released on Thursday, October 3, at Serena Hotel in Kampala.
UBOS, the institution responsible for conducting the National Population and Housing Census every ten years, plays a crucial role in providing national statistics to government agencies across Uganda.
The 2024 Census received substantial support from the Ugandan government, which allocated Shs328.74 billion for the initiative.
Additionally, development partners such as UNHCR, UNDP, and UNFPA contributed 1% of the funding, amounting to 18.5 billion Uganda Shillings.
The release of the main report aligns with the Census Roadmap and fulfills a commitment made by the Census Commissioner during the launch of the preliminary results on June 27.
According to UBOS, the main report will address three essential questions: How do we live? What do we own? Where do we access services?
Population censuses are vital for several reasons. Accurate demographic data is essential for effective policy-making, enabling governments to understand population dynamics, inform development strategies, and allocate resources efficiently.
Economists assert that understanding population characteristics allows for better planning in education, healthcare, and housing, directly impacting quality of life.
The upcoming release of the Census 2024 results is anticipated to provide invaluable insights that will guide Uganda's development trajectory for the next decade.
As the nation awaits these results, the importance of thorough and accurate data collection cannot be overstated; it is foundational to building a prosperous future for all Ugandans.
