He was in town to meet his daughter, Delephine Nzasabimana, who had sought him out to request school fees, as he had not visited the family in some time.
According to Nzasabimana, they reunited and then went to a local bar where Ntiriyamunda purchased food, including meat, from Hamis Bakunda.
Shortly after, disaster struck as the meat became lodged in his throat, causing him to lose consciousness. Despite efforts to assist him, he tragically died at the scene.
"I was shocked to find my father dead," Nzasabimana tearfully recounted. "We had just reunited, and he took me to the bar to buy food."
The incident has left the local community deeply shaken. Eyewitnesses described the deceased as a regular patron at the bar, which earned him the nickname "Akanovera."
Local Council I Chairperson, Benon Maniragaba , expressed concern about the lack of tenant registration in the area, making it difficult to identify individuals in emergencies.
As of the time of reporting, local police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
However, this tragedy highlights the critical need for food safety measures and proper emergency response protocols in local establishments.
