Hoima district leaders  Uthuman Mugisha are pushing for an  elevation of Buseruka Sub county, the home to Kabalega international airport to a municipal status to  improve service delivery and match the standards of an international airport.

Mugisha notes that they have already written to the minister of local Government Raphael Magyezi on the same highlighting the urgency given the oil developments taking place in the area.

Buseruka Sub county in Hoima district has Four parishes, 42 villages, a sub county that is located along the Hoima Kaiso Tonya road about 30 kilometers from Hoima City.

This  home to a number of oil activities and  other developments that have come in the region as a result of oil exploration.

Notably included, The East African Crude oil pipeline is stationed in the same area at the pump station one, Kabalega Industrial park and the second largest international airport Kabalega international airport among other projects.

With all these developments in Hoima, Uthuman Mugisha says it does not make any logical sense to have such infrastructures in a sub county whose social life and way of living of the local population and developments is way below.

"Imagine having all these infrastructures an airport that will receive a lot of people some will come to visit and do tours, an industrial park, the EACOP line and pump station one, with a sub county you know what services it is limited to, so it is high time that Government considers this urgently and have Buseruka granted a municipal status, with a municipality it comes with development funding, donors, improved health, water, education, roads and other infrastructures which will match up the standards of the investments made in the area" Mugisha said

James Mulindambura the Kigorobye sub county councilor says once the sub county is granted a municipal status it will see speedy development in the area, and people's way of life will definitely improve easily.

"When you look at the population in the area they are surely poor people, but when you get a municipal status this will see more industries, factories and other businesses cropping up in the area, in away besides development they will create employment for the local people whose livelihoods will also change'' he said.

All we want is if someone visits the area that houses these infrastructures really should appreciate it's impact to even the community" Mulindambura added.

Uthuman said they have already written to the minister of local government Raphael Magyezi over the same saying this is very important to improve the status of the area that houses the airport.

I wrote but also visited the minister of local government on this move, we informed him why it important and it's urgency and we are optimistic the municipal status will be granted, once this is achieved then Buseruka, and Kigorobya will be our main commercial towns" He said

Rodgers Mbabazi the Hoima resident district commissioner said this is a welcome idea, which they as office of the resident district commissioner will push.

"The NRM agenda is development and improving peoples livelihood, so everything that comes in that line we have to support it as office of the RDC, when the area get's a municipality Hoima district will no longer rely on Hoima city for most business transaction, we will be intentional on ensuring that the municipality is developed, more business, factories so that we get more revenues that will in turn help us deliver other local needed services" He said
