The hub, supported by MTN Foundation Uganda, aims to empower youth with disabilities by offering technology skills training, improving employment opportunities, and fostering business incubation.
As part of its Digital Access Program, MTN Uganda provided Tunaweza Foundation with 10 computers, a contribution valued at shs65 million, which also includes one year of free internet and backup inverter systems.
This initiative aligns with MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which focuses on promoting digital literacy and inclusion, particularly among underserved communities, including individuals with disabilities.
The new computer lab at Tunaweza Foundation marks one of many projects by MTN Uganda to bridge the digital divide and equip Ugandans with the tools needed for success in a technology-driven world.
Speaking at the handover event, Augustine Lule, Central Region Business Manager at MTN Foundation, emphasized the critical role of technology in fostering inclusion.
"Access to technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity," Lule said, adding, "We are committed to ensuring that every Ugandan, regardless of their background or abilities, benefits from a modern connected life."
With 77% of Uganda's population under 30, the need for digital skills is growing, yet many, especially those with disabilities, struggle to access the necessary resources.
Tunaweza Foundation’s Executive Director, Victo Nalule, praised MTN Uganda's support, noting that over 500 individuals will benefit from the initiative.
"These computers will significantly enhance our ability to equip our youth, including those with disabilities, with vital digital skills," she said.
Ellen Masi, the U.S. Mission’s Public Affairs Counselor and the event’s chief guest, commended MTN Uganda for its role in advancing digital inclusion.
"Technology is integral to everything we do, from education to employment," Masi said.
"By providing access to this computer lab, we are ensuring that children and youth, regardless of their abilities, have the tools they need to thrive in the digital era."
The new lab is part of MTN Foundation's broader Digital Access Program, which plans to establish additional labs at institutions such as Code Campus in Mbuya, St. Joseph’s Nyenga Seminary, Revival Girls in Mbarara, and St. John’s Secondary School in Sheema.
With an investment exceeding shs390 million, MTN Foundation is driving the expansion of ICT access and fostering inclusive education across various communities.
The initiative supports Uganda’s Vision 2040, National Development Plan III, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as part of MTN Uganda’s ongoing efforts to create a digitally inclusive society.
Over the years, MTN Uganda has partnered with organizations like Enabel, the Belgian Development Agency, to establish more than 42 ICT labs in educational institutions, vocational centers, and prisons across the country.
