Kabale police arrest five suspects over street light solar panel

Territorial police in Kabale have apprehended five suspects in connection with the theft and damage of street light solar panels within Kabale municipality.

Over the years the stealing of solar has been on going hence causing increasing number of insecurity cases in the municipality and the district at large.

The suspects have been identified as Gerevazio Ampaire, herdsman resident of Kigongi cell, central ward, Martin Muhereza,28 years old, resident of Hamurwa Rubanda district, Esera Mirembe 40 years old, a resident of Murihita village for Rubanda district, Gerevazio Habomugisha,40 years old, resident of Hamurwa village, and Edita Arinaitwe 22 years old resident of Kakore cell, all in Rubanda district.

The suspects are being charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, malicious damage, theft and possession of breaking implements.

Between July up to September 2024, the suspects allegedly conspired to damage street lights valued at UGX 225,750,000 property of the government of Uganda. Solid the stolen items to one Nuwamanya, still at large.

Elly maate Kigezi police spokesperson confirms the arrest adding that police arrested the suspects through intelligence tips-offs and recovered two solar batteries from Mirembe Esera and another one person identified as Mushwasa

Maate adds that Kabale police station has registered multiple cases, and inquiries are ongoing adding that scenes of crime have been visited by police, municipal council officials and local leaders.

“It’s very unfortunate that while we are fighting crime by lighting the town some people are working towards sabotaging such good programs. We are doing everything possible to ensure that all those who are involved in this vice are arrested and charged according. Maate states.

Over the years Kabale municipality and Kabaestle district have been counting losses over street lights installation.
