Two Congolese nationals killed in Kisoro accident
A devastating car accident occurred on August 27 at around 8:30pm on the Kisoro-Kabale Road in Kisoro District.
The crash involved a black Toyota Noah with registration number CGO 9777AB/07.
According to police, the vehicle was traveling from Kisoro to Kabale when it crashed at Kagano village, Muhindura parish, in Kanaba sub-county.
Tragically, two people lost their lives in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Katembo Kisinziro, a male resident of Butembo in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Masika Tseda Wivine, a 31-year-old female resident of Goma in the DRC.
Five others were injured in the crash. The injured include Kahindo Esperance Kirumbiri, a 36-year-old female resident of Butembo in the DRC; Imerida Kahambo Kimwana, a 17-year-old female resident of Goma in the DRC; Flex Baluku Rusasa, a 3-year-old male son of the deceased Masika; and Ibrahim Muhindo Kigoma, an 87-year-old male Congolese resident of Beni in the DRC.
Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the accident, stating that the driver is currently on the run and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
Maate noted that the incident has sent shockwaves through the community and urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads. “Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the injured. We will do everything possible to ensure that justice is served,” Maate said.
He further mentioned that investigations into the accident are ongoing.
