“This is not a gig, we are looking for a pointsman, someone to lead us in the bigger battle of prosperity. Prosperity comes from African economic integration,” Museveni said.

President Museveni has said that he will support the candidature of Kenyan strongman Raila Odinga for the chairmanship of the African Union because he is a convinced pan-Africanist, unlike his competitors in the race.

Museveni made the statements while attending the launch of Odinga’s candidature at State House Nairobi in Kenya on Tuesday.

“This is a job of vision, conviction and knowledge. I will support Rt Hon Odinga because he is a convinced Pan-Africanist,” Museveni said.

According to Museveni, Rail Odinga is the most suitable candidate for the job because he has consistently exhibited passion for Africa and African affairs.

Museveni says that other people are in the race for different agendas, like career building while Raila is already the candidate Africa needs to lead the battle for prosperity.

“This is not a gig, we are looking for a pointsman, someone to lead us in the bigger battle of prosperity. Prosperity comes from african economic integration,” Museveni said.

He said that while he disagrees with certain elements in Odinga’s group like the legislator Babu Owino, he can attest to Raila’s nationalist values and his love for uniting Africa, hence he has credentials to become AU chairman.
