The late Oulanyah died on March 20, 2022, at the age 56 from the University of Washington Medical Centre in Seattle, US.
Ms Among and the late Oulanyah joined hands in 2021 for a tenacious bid to defeat Ms Rebecca Kadaga, whom the deceased first Speaker of the Eleventh Parliament had succeeded.
The race for the 2021 Speakership was politically damaging across many fronts, with Mr Oulanyah and Ms Among taking with them a couple of top politicians from Busoga such as then NRM secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba and Minister Persis Namuganza to defeat Ms Kadaga.
However, Mr Oulanyah could only hold the rein for about six months as by December 21, ill-health had taken a toll on his body.
He would in February be flown on a chartered Uganda Airlines plane to Seatle for the specialised medical care but he did not make it.
Ms Among would replace the deceased Omoro County legislator, with the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament taking the seat with 401 votes against 66 of her competitor Asuman Basalirwa (Jeema, Bugiri Municipality).

A fractured Opposition led by their leader Mr Joel Ssenyonyi have partly boycotted the regional assembly but Ms Among and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa have shrugged it all off.
